Training directory
Listed, not endorsed. We list public organisations and (soon) trainers, using public information. A listing is not an endorsement or a recommendation. We have not tested, attended or checked any trainer's services unless we say so. Check qualifications, insurance, methods and reviews yourself, and ask your vet.
Public trainer organisations
- APDT Australia (Association of Pet Dog Trainers Australia): Member directory searchable by location. Per APDT's site, listed members are accredited or reviewed against kind, force-free methods. Check their current criteria yourself.
- Pet Professional Guild Australia: Membership body for force-free pet professionals. 'Find a Professional' search by suburb.
- Dogs Australia: National canine body (breed standards, breeder and club information; affiliated state bodies list obedience clubs).
- RSPCA Australia: Animal welfare information for dog owners. Ask local RSPCA branches about puppy preschool referrals.
What to look for
- Kind methods with no force, and a trainer happy to explain them.
- Up-to-date qualifications, and membership of a professional group.
- Puppy classes that ask for vaccinations and keep groups small.
- You can watch a class before you book.
